About us

pool.down is a company based in Cologne, Germany, that develops the pool.down Tower: a mobile ice bath chiller that cools your own bathtub or an inflatable tub to as low as 3 °C (37 °F) without ice. pool.down was founded by Nicolai Trittmann and Aurel Hampl; the legal entity is pooldown UG (haftungsbeschränkt) in Cologne.

Who is behind pool.down

Nicolai Trittmann

Co-founder and managing director, M.Sc. Engineering.

Aurel Hampl

Co-founder and managing director, B.Sc. Economics, medical studies (on hold).

How the Tower came about

It started with a question: why is ice bathing so complicated, with ice to haul and hours of waiting? Aurel wrote the first business plan during an exchange at UC Berkeley in California. With that plan we pitched on television to a panel of experienced investors; their feedback showed us what was still missing.

We solved exactly that, together with engineers and designers from California, Asia and Germany, and filed an EU-wide patent application. The result is the Tower: a chiller that stands next to the tub, cools and filters the water and is controlled via an app.

What we stand by

  • We only write about ice bathing what studies support, and we name the source in the text.
  • We make no promises of cure. If you have cardiovascular conditions, talk to a doctor before your first ice bath.
  • The first Towers ship from January 2027.
